Description
This layer consists of boundaries of the old towns or municipalities aligned with the official municipal boundaries. For example
the Sandton boundary is part of the City of Johannesburg. Similarly, in the rural areas town boundaries for towns such as
Brits and Magaliesburg are included. Custom town boundaries for well known “unofficial” places such as the Bluff in Durban
has also been created.
Key Features:
- AfriGIS town boundaries are aligned with the official municipal boundaries.
- AfriGIS ID remains unique even after name changes occur (e.g. Pietersburg to Polokwane).
- The Old Town names are maintained in the dataset (e.g. Pietersburg).
- Metadata is available for each town boundary.
- The municipality and province for each town is included.
- Each polygon is classified according to the SANS 1880:2003 Edition 1
